Frequently Asked Questions
Where do your wood slabs come from?
Most of our Slabs come from Indonesia and are either bought directly from the government from when they’re clearing for a road or a family farm or yard. (responsibly sourced)
What types of finish do you have?
Oil Varnish Blend - Hand rub finish (Matte) Made over 100 years ago in Europe for Flooring. Resists water and liquids ( liquids will bead up on the surface) yet we still recommend to wipe it up as soon as possible don’t leave over night. This finish is best for bringing out the richness of deep brown grains. Still use coasters and placemats.
Polyurethane - This adds a little more protection to the woods than the conversion Varnish Blend (CVB) yet it will not be matte it leaves a smooth glossier feel. You can choose from 3 different sheens: Flat, Satin, and Glossy. Highly recommend this finish for Tamarind due to it keeping the color truest to the natural coloring (CVB will make cream colors look yellow)
Conversion Varnish - This is the most durable finish that is used on high end kitchen cabinetry as well we recommend this finish for commercial applications due to the protection and resisting all chemical cleaners.
Epoxy - This is a complete encapsulation it will be clear yet glossy and will show scratches. Clear resin is best for indoor since with direct sunlight it will amber. (turn a yellow tone)
Shou Sugi Ban- Japanese technique of burning and charring the wood to completely seal and protect the wood. Will make the slab completely black and will allow the grain to show.
Bleaching - Will leave the slab completely white and will also depending on the finish be various levels of brightness.
How do I know if the piece will fit?
General measurements and rule of thumbs
Table height - The average table height is 30” this is from the ground to the top of the table.
Size of table for a room - General rule of thumb is to allow 3’ all around a table to allow for chairs and guest movement. (So take the dimensions of a room and subtract 3’ from the wall for the maximum width and length.
Average table dimension - The average width of a table is from 36”-42” with 40” wide being the most common.
Chair height - 18-20” to the seat
Bar height - 41-43” seat height for the bar 34-40”
Counter height - 34-40” seat for counter 24-27”
Coffee Table - The height depends on the couch and is usually 2” lower than the seat height of the couch to allow for settling once a person has sat down. For the length the minimum is 50% of the length of the couch to 3/4 of the total length of the couch.
